How to become a member of the Medical Mission Sisters?
We welcome young women who are interested and motivated to commit themselves whole heartedly to live as Vowed religious in community with other sisters to continue the mission and charism of the congregation entrusted to us by God. The basic study requirement is 12th std. We also take those who have completed 10th std.
“Our call is rooted in the Sacred Scripture, nourished by the Eucharist, prayer and liturgy, and lived in the context of community in mission.”
Our Formation is person oriented. The Formation Phases are as follows*:
- Come and See Phase – One to two weeks
- Language and Orientation Phase – One year. One needs to learn English and Hindi (if does not know it already)
- Study Phase (for those who join after their 10th)
- Pre-Novitiate (one year) – currently in Pune (combined for the three Provinces of India). This is a time to learn about religious life and about the Congregation and going deeper into one’s life, to be freed of the baggage of the past to prepare oneself to make a commitment to live for God, in serving others.
- Novitiate (two years) is currently in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh (combined for the three Provinces of India). Here the Novice learns more deeply about religious life lived in community, centred on God and about the History and different Mission expressions of the Congregation. She also learns about the local and global socio political realities. The Novices are given a short experience of living in a village as well as in an institutional set-up.
- First Vows is professed after completion of the Novitiate.
- Temporary Vows period is upto 6 years. During this time a sister will be sent for graduation/professional studies as required for Mission in the Society and inter-Province mission experience.
- Final Profession of Vows is made at the end of 4- 6 year which makes a sister a full-fledged member of the Congregation.
*All the above phases can be extended if need be.
