About Us

Medical Mission Sisters - North India

This is the story of 77 Medical Mission Sisters (MMS) from 13 States and one Union Territory of India who live in communities in Pune, Goa, Delhi, Patna, Hazaribagh and Ranchi, which we call North Unit. We belong to an international Society of 22 nationalities. We reach out to those in need of healing on five continents and 17 countries of the world, in the spirit of Jesus the Healer and our Foundress, Doctor Anna Dengel, who with care and compassion worked to bring healing to the poor Muslim women of Rawalpindi. These Women died needlessly for want of medical care in the early 1920s. We work with people of many nations, cultures and faiths among numerous poor and oppressed people to strive to create a more caring, more compassionate world for all.

Healing is the heart of our identity. Wholeness is at the core of how we see life. To be present in a healing way impels us to deepen our attitude of nonviolence in dealing with violence and conflicts in our lives, in communities and in the world, so that reconciliation and peace can grow. All this is intimately linked to the search for just relationships in the Earth community. This is our hope, this is our prayer.
